Many small businesses and self-employed workers from painters & decorators to zumba instructors do now have a website. But not all of them. Or if they do the information is hopelessly out of date and the site just looks... dated. Some small business owners think that it's too expensive, too much hassle or just not necessary to have a website. They've got enough work at this moment so why bother?
Well if I need some overgrown trees in my back garden pruned or chopped down I might ask my neighbours if they know a good local tree surgeon. John on my left has used "Trees R Us" in Tonbridge and was very happy with the service. Dave on my right thinks "Evergreen Removals" in Tunbridge Wells were great. I google them both by name. I can't find a website for the first company - just a mention in a local online directory - but "Evergreen Removals" has a very simple 4 page website with its logo at the top.
There's a physical address (which confirms it's in my area), a mobile number, the names and photos of the two guys who work there in their branded t-shirts, harnesses and hard hats; a handful of testimonials from satisfied customers; some before and after pictures of a garden, and a photo of their two vans and their wood-chipping machine. It stresses that they will leave my garden tidy. They are experienced with all kinds of trees and bushes and can prune as well as chop down. They can remove the stump if I want. They know about tree diseases. And they are insured.
It's not a flashy site but it gives me confidence that Evergreen Removals is a professional and experienced outfit who would do my job well. Meanwhile, I still know nothing about "Trees R Us" apart from the phone number. So guess which company I'm going to call first? Wouldn't you rather be that company, even if you have to turn down work at busy times?
Now, how much do you think that website cost him? If he's smart, not as much as you might think. Tournesol Marketing can build you a simple but effective website for a fraction of what it used to cost just a few years ago. And it will be responsive (see our previous blog post). We can find stock photos where appropriate, or arrange for a photographer to visit if needed (though you've probably got more decent photos than you think). We can write the copy that will sell your company's services. And YOU will be able to refresh the site by changing the photos and adding text and testimonials down the line. We can show you how, with no coding involved. Or we can do it for you, your choice.
